Your Holiday Skin Care Guide December 16, 2016
So the holidays are officially here, and Christmas is just around the corner! This may be the most festive, but also the busiest time of year, and an easy excuse to neglect ourselves, as we are so busy rushing around shopping, merry-making, gift-wrapping, baking cookies, visiting loved ones, and prepping everything for a fabulous celebration.
Hey, I get it! If you’re not getting ready for your next holiday party, you’re trying to figure out what to buy for everyone on your list. While it may seem impossible to separate yourself from the holiday madness, it’s necessary to find ways to ease your stress in order to not only stay sane, but to keep your skin looking healthy and glowing too.
What you may not realize is that stress doesn’t just take a toll on how you feel, it affects your skin too, and can leave your complexion looking anything but bright.
Apart from stress, there are the endless parties filled with delicious, yet not so healthy, food, and of course, loads of bubbly! Sugary, carb-laden snacks, and endless rounds of fizz take a toll on your skin too, so keep reading to find out a few of our favorite tips to keep your skin looking bright and healthy this festive season!
Take Some Time Out
Sometimes you just have to stop, take a deep breath and find your center before you continue with your never ending to-do list.
Stress releases a hormone called cortisol, which takes a real toll on the skin, and can cause it to look dull, dry and in some serious need of TLC!
So in the midst of the holiday madness, stop what you are doing and simply set aside a few moments to take a few deep, cleansing, meditative breaths, and perhaps indulge in a calming activity, be it reading, drawing, taking a bath, or even watching a Netflix show. A little aromatherapy can work wonders to help you reset your energy. My fav's are the Lavender Love and the Zen Gemstone Aromatherapy for Relaxation. I keep one in my purse and one at my desk and apply whenever I'm feeling stressed. If you can, set aside a whole day, or even just a couple of hours for some ‘me-time’ so that you can get back in your groove feeling refreshed and relaxed. You really do deserve it!
It’s easy to say you are going to eat healthier until confronted with that gooey pecan pie at your next holiday social. We aren’t saying you shouldn't indulge, but the key is moderation.
Too much sugar over the holidays will not only leave you feeling sluggish and irritable, sugar actually sucks water out of the cells, as well as breaks down collagen; an important structural protein for keeping your skin taut and plump.
So to avoid the dry, dull look, be sure to drink lots of water and to load up on protein rich snacks to even out your blood sugar and keep you full. A great tip is to munch on some nuts before heading out the door, so you are less likely to keep reaching for the sugary snacks. Also be sure to drink water alongside every alcoholic beverage to avoid dehydration. Your skin and body will thank you the next day!
Give Your Skin Some Extra Love
Cleansing and moisturizing your skin every day is great, but during this cooler and stressful time of year, your skin will thank you for a little more love and hydration. Our Pineapple and Papaya Mask is perfect for effectively exfoliating your skin, and will leave it beautifully glowing thanks to fruit enzymes and a high concentration of Vitamin C. So set an evening aside to put on your comfiest pj’s, pour a glass of wine, and sit back with this luxurious face mask!
Follow these simple tips and you are sure to enjoy a healthier, and brighter festive season, as your skin will simply glow!
Wishing you the Happiest of Holidays!
